Perceptions of and attitudes toward marine resources conservation and fishing practices of sea fisherman in Central Java

Results of the study showed that of the 13 variables tested, four variables including fathers occupation, income from sources other than fishing, media exposure, and ownership type of fishermen were significantly related to perception of marine resources conservation. The combination of educational attainment and training attended, the combination of income from fishing and organizational membership, and contact with change agent were simultaneously related to perception of marine resources conservation. The other findings also showed that of 13 variables tested, six, namely age, size of household, fishing experience, income other than from fishing, media exposure and ownership type were significantly related to attitudes toward marine resources conservation. Moreover, the combination of educational attainment, training attended and organizational membership and the combination of income from fishing and contact with change agent were simultaneously related to attitudes toward marine resources conservation. Furthermore, of the 13 variables tested, six variables - educational attainment, income from fishing, income from other than fishing, organizational membership, contact with change agent, and ownership type of fishermen were significantly related to fishing practices. The last finding appeared that there was significant relationship between perceptions of, and attitudes toward, marine resources conservation.
