Field evaluation of the efficacy of low rate of deltamethrin against major insect pests of rice [Philippines]

Field trials were conducted in three locations in the Philippines to evaluate the efficacy of deltamethrin at low rates ranging from 3.1 to 6.2 g ai/ha in the control of major insect pests of rice. It was carried out from Sep 1989 to Mar 1990. Results showed that deltamethrin applied at the lowest rate of 3.1 g ai/ha at 10, 30, 44, and 60 days after transplanting (DAT) was effective in reducing the population of the whorl maggots, green leafhopper, white-backed planthopper, and deadhearts and increased the yield of rice compared to the untreated control in the three test locations. The degree of control with cypermethrin was greater and yield of rice was much higher when the rate was increased from 3.1 to 4.7 and 6.2 g ai/ha.
