Use of new sugar beet and salvinia tests for determination of phytotoxicity of some herbicides

The tests were used to determine the phytotoxicity of some herbicides of new generation (Casoron, Glean, Fusilade, Roundup). Besides, for comparative purposes, the spirodela (great duckweed) test was used, too. From among the 3 tests under comparison the most suitable appeared the salvinia test; the plant was found most sensitive to the herbicides examined and the test itself was short and rather not laborious. Among the herbicides tested the highest toxocity was that of Glean. It inhibited the increase of dry matter by 50 percent when used in concentration of 0.00025 mg /cu. dm in case of salvinia and 0.0013 mg/cu. dm in case of sugar beet. The action of Casoron on all the plants tested was rather uniform. Inhibition of dry matter increase by 50 percent was observed at concentration of 0.6 mg/cu. dm with sugar beet, 0.2 mg/cu. dm with salvinia and 0.7 mg/cu. dm with spirodela. The action of the other herbicides was more differentiated
