Storage molds, aflatoxins in maize and their chemical control

Maize seeds of mixed varieties at various initial moisture contents, i.e. 12, 13, 14, 14.5, 15, 18 and 20 %, then packed in jute bags kept in the storage room, maize seeds lot with the high initial moisture content had percentage of storage fungi and contamination of aflatoxins high level than maize seeds lot with the low initial moisture contents. Identification of Aspergillus spp. on maize on Czapek's solution agar it was found that 9 group 15 species, i.e. Luprosil NC at the rates of 10, 12, 14 and 14 liter/ton of seeds respectively, control the storage molds and reduced the contamination of aflatoxin in maize seeds lots with the initial moisture contents of 18, 20, 22 and 26 percentage more effectively within the duration 7, 10, 21 and 21 weeks respectively. Initial moisture contents, 24.22 % the results showed that at the rate of 10 liter would be the most effective in controlling the storage molds, enhance a low amount of aflatoxins within the storage period of 4 weeks. Maize seeds lot at initial moisture content 18.8, 21.4 and 23.5 per cent had aflatoxin contamination highest level in 8 day and all initial moisture content had aflatoxins contamination over 20 ppb in 2 days.
