Organic matter and nutrient content in stream water and sediment of watersheds in the upper South Thailand

Quantities of organic matter content of stream water varied from 4.5 to 54.3 milligrams per liter while the quantities of organic matter in sediment ranged from 0.4 to 2.6 %. The concentration of soluble ammonia in water varied from 6.0 to 7,093.4 micrograms per liter while nitrate concentation varied from 15.5 to 562.2 micrograms per liter and the quantities of soluble phosphate in water ranged from 0.76 to 2,774.6 micrograms per liter. The quantities of organic matter in streamwater of five classes of watershed classification were significantly different and sampling times had the same effects. Organic matter content of stream-water was also significantly affected by the interaction of types of watershed and sampling times while the organic matter in sediment was significantly affected by the times of sampling and the same effects were observed with the concentrations of nitrate in streamwater. No effects of types of watershed classification and sampling times on the concentrations of ammonia and phosphate in streamwater were observed. However, multivariate analysis disclosed that the quantities of organic matter in water and sediment and the concentrations of ammonia, nitrate and phosphate in streamwater were significantly affected by the types of watershed classification and sampling times.
