Effects of feeding raw, roasted, cooked or autoclaved full-fat soybeans on the growth of broiler chickens

Experiments were conducted to study the effects of feeding raw, roasted, cooked or autoclaved full-fat soybean to broiler chickens. Results indicated that rations containing full-fat soybean cooked for 30 min or autoclaved for 30 min at a pressure of 103.4 kPa (15 lb in **-2) produced better growth response than similar rations containing raw or roasted full-fat soybean. Broiler chickens 6-9 weeks of age could utilize raw or roasted full-fat soybean, or full-fat soybean that was cooked for only 15 min, better than young broiler chickens. Relative weights of the pancreas were increased significantly by feeding raw full-fat soybean; cooking for 30 or 40 min or autoclaving reduced the effect. These treatments did not affect the relative weights of the heart, liver, spleen or the thyroid.
