Researches into genetics, analysis of diallel crosses in particular, enabled establishing of the best general combiners and combinations of crosses, as well as to get an insight into effect and distribution of the genes for the basic yield - and quality - components in grain and flour. Therefore the Osk. 4.216/2 variety, produced in Osijek, and the Zg. 2877/74 variety, produced in Zagreb, were chosen as parents in order to derive a new, high-yielded and high-quality variety of winter wheat. Recombinating the genes of the parents and their ancestors and applying the pedigree method, a new genotype was obtained, marked Osk. 5.68/14, which was recognized in 1988 as the new variety named "ANA". According to its period of vegetation, "ANA" may be classified into the group of mid-early-varieties, that seems to be most suitable for the agricultural and ecological conditions of our region. "ANA" is also characterized by a short, strong stalk, convenient for the high-farming. According to the estimates given by the commission for the varietal approbation of cultivated plants "ANA" belongs to high-yielded and high-quality varieties of winter-wheat. The reason for it was that "ANA" had a grain-yield significantly higher than those of both standards (Partizanka and Super zlatna). The quality of its flour and bread was almost equal to that of the Partizanka variety, so it was recognized to belong to the A2 quality-class.
