Ovarian tissues in rats treated with a single dose (1 mg) of estradiol dipropionate (OeDP) during the neonatal, juvenile or prepubertal period of development have been examined using light and electron microscopy. The following data were obtained: the ovarian mass in the animals treated neonatally was much more decreased compared to the ovaries of animals treated on 16th or 38th day; retardation of ovarian tissue differentiation was expressed especially in neonatally treated animals i.e. follicles did not reach maturation and atretic, cystoid and cystic follicles predominated. In females treated on 16th or 38th day, maturing follicles and corpora lutea were present, and there were fewer atretic and cystic follicles than in neonatally treated animals.
