Analysis of the RNA components of Chronic bee Paralysis Virus (CPV) on SDS-PAGE

Purified preparations of chronic bee-paralysis virus (CPV) from heads of diseased adult bees (Apis mellifera) were obtained by two cycles of differential centrifugation and sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation. Analysis of nucleic acids of CPV was carried out by means of SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The results have shown that five bands are seen in gels and the nucleic acids are sensitive to ribonuclease. It was demonstrated that CPV had five single-stranded RNA components. The structural implications of CPV genome were discussed.
