The harpacticoid copepod Abscondicola humesi n. gen., n. sp. is described from the gill chambers of terrestrial crabs recovered along the northern coast of Papua New Guinea. Abscondicola n. gen. is related to Cancrincola Wilson and is the first representative of this genus group in the Pacific Ocean. The genera Cancrincola and Antillesia, previously assigned to the Ameiridae, are together with Abscondicola n. gen. unified in the newly erected family Cancrinolidae n. fam. Relevant details of the adults of Cancrincola jamaicensis, C. longiseta and Antillesia cardisomae are summarized. In addition, the copepodid stages of the species studied herein are described and keys to the genera and species are provided.
