Incidence of bovine Rotavirus and Escherichia coli in calves from central milk zone of Argentina. 1984 - 1989

From 1984 to 1986 it has been studied the incidence of bovine Rotavirus (BRV) in faecal samples (FS) of 147 healthy calves (HC) and of 154 diarrheic calves (DC), under thirty five days old. The FS were got by weekly vigilance in 22 farms in different ways and by vigilance of clinical cases by a team of vets; the FS were processed by contraimmunoelectrophoresis techniques (CIE) and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). During 1987 to 1989 the study was limited to the artificial collective breeding; it 177 (NC) and 111 (DC) were studied. ELISA's immunoabsorbent assay test was incorporated and some parts of the FS were processed to spot the enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) by Mc Conkey's isolation. IMVIC's differentiation and Dean Test's identification. It was discovered infection rate for BRV of 12.39 in 100 studied calves 52.05 percentage of them had diarrhea. The infection level to ETEC reached a 17.72% in HC and a 38.23% in DC.
