The changes of the free radical concentration, the ascorbic acid content and the membrane resistance of radiated tea plant were determined. Results showed that, with the increase of the radiative dose, the free radical concentration in tea plant increased significantly, SOD activity in the leaf decreased, the permeability and lipid peroxidation of the membrane intensified, the ascorbic acid content in the leaf declined but the activity of ascorbic acid oxidase increased, resulting in heavier damage to the radiated tea plant. The radiation damage was caused by the accumulation of the free radical resulting in the decline of SOD activity, disorder of the free radical producing-eliminating mechanism, intensity of the membrane lipid peroxidation and the damage of cell membrane
