Biological effects of paclobutrazol on strawberry (Fragaria ananassa) under salt stress were studied with pot-grown seedlings in soil containing 0.2% NaCl. Salt injury to strawberry leaves was decreased and the rootability of the plants was maintained by paclobutrazol pretreatment in different dosages (concentrations). On the other hand, physiological tests indicated that paclobutrazol increased SOD activity and decreased MDA content, resulting in a lower membrane permeability in strawberry leaves under salt stress. Furthermore, paclobutrazol reduced also osmotic stress because it facilitated accumulation of soluble sugar and maintained relative water equilibrium in strawberry leaves under salt treament. However, the increase of free proline in strawberry leaves under salt stress is regarded as a physiological character of salt injury
