Suyono (Balai Penelitian Tanaman Pangan, Bogor (Indonesia))
An experiment was conducted at the Entomology Department, Bogor Research Institute for Food Crops, from July 1988 to January 1989. Objective of the experiment was to study the effect of water content in soybean seed to the biology and population build up of the weevil. Five levels of water content in soybean seeds which were used in the experiment were 8.20, 10.26, 12.36, 14.20, and 16.64 percent, respectively. The data recorded were: (a) the effect of water content in soybean seed on the life cycles, female fecundity and adult longevity, and of the weevies (b) the effect of water content in soybean seeds to population build up of the weevils in storage. The results showed that the water content in the soybean seeds affected the weevils life cycle and adult longevity. The low water content in the soybean seeds (8.20 percent and 10.26 percent) was effective to suppress the population build up of the weevils damage and weight losses of the soybean seeds.
