A historical account of Indian cattle in Jamaica
1983
Redshaw, G.E.
There are no breeds of cattle which are indigenous to Jamaica. Six breeds of Indian cattle were imported: Mysore, Hissar, Gir, Guzerat, Nellore and Sahiwal. With the exception of the Nellore there are no pure bred animals of the other breeds left: they have been inter-crossed or used for beef production. Provides a brief description of the Indian cattle which have been imported into Jamaica. Includes a description of the Jamaican Brahman: good general appearance, showing the typical features of the Indian cattle in head, hump, dewlap, hindquarters and a long tapering tail.
