In order to control bulb mites, a parasite on Chinese chives, effectively and to establish a guideline for pesticide use on the safety food production, pirimiphos-methyl (a.i. 45%, emulsitiable concentrate, 2,000 times diluted solution) was applied and its effect on the time as well as the residue in Chinese chive and the soil were examined. 1) When pirimiphos-methyl was applied to Chinese chive by dipping the whole plant at the time of planting or by drenching the soil one or two times until 21 days before the harvest, its residue didn't exceed the tolerance level. The concentration of pirimiphos methyl in the soil went up as the number of drenching increased. But it decreased as the time passed after the last application. 2) Pirimiphos-methyl had a effect on controlling bulb mites in Chinese chive by both application methods, dipping and drenching. The effect of drenching was not affected by plants' growth stage. 3) It was concluded that pirimiphos-methyl (2,000 times diluted solution) could be used effectively and safely to control bulb mites in Chinese chives when it was applied by dipping of planting or drenching the soil until 21 days before the harvest
