Interactive computer program, CSSP, for simulation using differential equations and an example for grassland ecosystems

CSSP (Continuous System Simulation Program) is an interactive program, for solving numerically a set of simultaneous differential equations, which helps us writing and executing dynamic models with a personal computer. Principal functions of CSSP are as follows. 1) Wherever there is a personal computer, CSSP can be used for making models. 2) As CSSP is an interactive program, it is suitable for try-and-error processes. 3) CSSP is written in BASIC. So users can execute simulations easier than others written in FORTRAN. 4) All the calculations in models are executed using the double precision for minimizing the accumulation of errors. 5) The most suitable integration method can be selected from three numerical methods, such as Runge-kutta, Trapezoidal and Euler method. 6) Graphical output is available on CRT screen and/or printer. 7) As results of simulations are written in files on floppy disks, they can be used as data of other calculations. A simulation for Zoysia-type pasture was shown as an example which was operated using CSSP
