Genotype x environment interactions of irrigated lowland rice; 2: stability and adaptability analysis

The stability and adaptability analyses of common genotypes were done using Bilbro and Ray's (1976) b and r square statistics and Shukla's (1972) stability variance. Ideal genotype were identified based on yield performance, that is, those that exhibited highest yield within their group, showed stability, adaptability to all environments. These genotypes were as follows: IR32307-107-3-2-2 (IR66), IR28150-84-3-3-2, MRC11055-430 (BPI R-12), IR28228-12-3-1-1-2 (IR70), IR42068-22-3-3-1-3 and IR32429-122-3-1-2. Stability and adapatability analyses were also conducted on plant height, number of productive tillers and maturity. Of the six ideal genotypes, three - IR66, IR70, and IR28150-84-3-3-2- were adapted to all environments for these traits (including yield). However, none of these genotypes were both stable and adaptable to all environments for all the traits studied.
