Comparative study of seed albumins in the genus Vicia

An electrophoretic analysis of native and dissociated total seed albumin extracts as well as albumin fractions separated by gel filtration was performed for nineteen Vicia faba species representing various sections of the subgenera Vicilla and Vicia. The species under study differed in the proportion of individual fractions in extracts and some of them were not found to have S2 and/or S4 fractions. The obtained results are discussed with reference to the taxonomy of the genus Vicia and are compared to the data concerning variation of seed albumins in the genus Pisum
