Effect of NPK, Mg and Na on the chemical composition of meadow herbage

Increasing doses of nitrogen fertilizers increased content of total and protein nitrogen, while N-NO3 concentration decreased at 120 kg N/ha and increased considerably at 240 and 360 kg N/ha. Intensive fertilization resulted in a negative correlation between raw protein and nitrate content and content of soluble carbohydrates. Fertilization with potassium and sodium increased content of these elements in meadow herbage. Potassium noticeably limited calcium uptake, less so magnesium uptake. Quality estimate of meadow herbage as based on the ratios between particular components were usually favourable
