The purpose of this audiovisual training module is to present background information on chickpea hybridization and briefly outlines the crossing technique. The module defines hybridization and lists three steps involved in hybridization; diagrams and describes the four main parts of a papilionaceous flower including the calyx, corolla, androecium, and gynoecium; lists and relates the six main stages in the development of a chickpea flower such as, closed-bud, hooded-bud, half-open flower, fully-open flower, and fading-flower; identifies the two major tasks in making crosses and describes the procedure for raising parental materials; and discusses the two main steps in artificial crossing: emasculation and pollination
