Further studies on post-emergence control of broomrape on tobacco with plant oils

Five plants (eucalyptus oil, pongamia oil, rice bran, soyabean oil and tobacco seed oil) were tested against broomrape Orobanche cernua, on tobacco. The oils were applied on young broomrape shoots (Unflowered 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 drops/shoot with a dropper. All the oils effectively killed the parasitic shoots, their optimum dosages beign 1 drop/shoot for each of eucalyptus oil, soyabean oil and tobacco seed oil and 2 drops/shoot for rice bran oil. Phytotoxicity on tobacco leaf was noticed only with eucalypthus oil
