Influence of harvesting date on yield, germination and seedling vigor of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) seeds

Seven varieties of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) were planted in randomized complete block during July to November 1984. The plants were randomly harvested on three different dates (110 days, 120 days, and 130 days) to observe the effect on yield, germination and seedling vigor. This 3x7 factorial experiment indicated that there was effect of harvesting date on number of pod/plant, weight of 100 pods, germination and seedling vigor. The observed data also confirmed effect of variety on number of pod/plant, weight of 100 pods, germination, seedling vigor and yield. The highest yield was observed in those varieties developed by Peanut Improvement Project, MIAT. A maximum yield of 431 kg./rai was observed in variety 7x2 (Tifton x PI 337409) when harvested at 120 days. The highest yield average for all three harvesting date was observed from variety 6x5 (DHT 200 x PI 337409) as 355.76 kg./rai.
