Target spot new sorghum disease in Thailand

In 1987, target leaf spot was first found on sorghum in North Eastern and Central Plain areas which are the main growing sorghum in Thailand. Symptom appears on sorghum leaves oval or rectangular shape, reddish or purplish color depending on variety with average size about 0.3 cm. wide and 1.3 cm. length. The isolation was made and the disease incited by Bipolaris sorghicola (Lefebvre and Sherwin) Shoem. Comdia are brown, fusiform, 3-6 septa, usually pipolar in germination. The most susceptible variety is Tx 2758, which was damaged from seedling through booting stage.
