Orchid maggot is one of the most serious pests of orchid flowers such as Dendrobium Jacquelyn Thomas, Dendrobium Youpadeewan and Dendrobium Pompadour. Its larvae feed in young flowers, which become deformed and subsequently decay. Not much work has been done recently on this topic because the larvae and adults are minute and delicate as well as the informations on their biology are, at present not available. The results of this preliminary study indicate that orchid maggot is classified to family Cecidomyiidae and genus Contarinia but the name of the species is still unidentified. The life history is approximately 30 days. It is anticipated that this study would be beneficial to future understanding of its ecology and control.
