Some physiological characteristics of Agaricus bitorquis were studied. Maximum growth on PDA was obtained at pH 5.5, 30 deg. celsius. Highly significant differences in growth on PDA were observed between the optimum pH and other pH levels and also optimum incubation temperature and other temperatures. Among the strains tested, A. 32 produced the highest growth on PDA at pH 5.5, 30 deg. celsius while A. 27 had the lowest growth under these conditions. However, the latter grew well at 35 deg. celsius and was the only strain grown at 37 deg. celsius. Among all the media used in this experiment, compost agar gave the highest growth and the difference was highly significant. A. 30 had the best growth on compost agar, followed by A. 26, A. 32, A. 27 and the lowest one was A. 29.
