Effect of different water regimes and irrigation intervals on growth and water use efficiency of groundnut

Experiment was conducted at the Northeast Regional Office of Agriculture, Tha Phra, during late January to May 1986 with the aim to study growth, yield and water use efficiency of groundnut cultivar Tainan 9 under different water regimes. The soil chosen in the study was a Korat series soil (Paleustult). Two irrigation intervals (7 and 14 days) and three water levels were compared using a strip plot design with four replicates. In addition to final pod yield, samples were also taken at 30, 45, 60 and 75 days after sowing to determine leaf area index and dry matter yield. The higher water regimes and the shorter irrigation interval (7 days) gave greater leaf area indices, and higher dry matter and seed yields of groundnuts. However, water use efficiency was found to be higher in groundnuts that received lower water regimes at longer irrigation intervals (14 days)
