An experiment on the yield attributes and nutritive value of cowpea on goats was conducted. At 95 days after maturing the mean fresh and DM yield of leaves and vines were 16.45 and 2.45 t/ha respectively, whereas the mean fresh and DM yield of pods were 1.77 and 0.86 respectively. The CP content (g/100 g DM) of whole plant, leaves, pod and seeds were 162, 17.0, 22.5 and 27.1 respectively, the EE content (g/100 g DM) of the same components were 2.13, 2.21, 2.10 and 2.89 respectively. A digestion trial with cowpea after 65 days (pre-flowering stage) onward was also conducted. The mean DM intake per kg metabolic body weight (W0.75 kg) was 58.21 g. The mean digestibility co-efficients were 74.05, 75.47, 78.06, 72.42 and 71.81 for DM, OM, CP, CF NFE and EE respectively. The TDN content of cowpea in goat was 71.27. However, the nutritive ratio of the same was 1:4.38.
