Low molecular weight carbohydrates in Dhabdhabey jute fibre: its comparison with Corchorus capsularis and Corchorus olitorius [in Bangladesh]

The aqueous extracts of both unretted jute bark and retted fibre of Dhabdhabey S-718 jute (a hybrid derivative from intervarietal cross of Corchorus capsularis and C. capsularis blue seeded) were separated by ion exchange resin column into neutral and acidic fractions. The low molecular weight carbohydrates of neutral monomers were identified as their alditol acetate and TMS derivatives by g.l.c. Their relative proportions were determined. In addition to these, presence of a disaccharide was also established. These results were compared with those of C. capsularis and C. olitorius.
