[Cold storage of Pinus radiata D. Don and Eucalyptus globulus Labill seedlings]
1993
Cea M, Jenaro
In June 1992 during 15 days Pinus radiata D. Don and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. bare root seedlings were put in cold and dark storage, in various containers (kraft paper bags, polyethylene and kraft-polyethylene), at 0+-2 deg C of temperature and 75 and 85% relative humidity. The objectives were to determine the effect of cold storage in the humidity content, dry weight and sanitary state of the seedlings in different types of containers at the end of the storage period and, on the survival and growth of these species in the field 8 months after plantings. The results showed that humidity percentage and survival of Pinus radiata D. Don were not affected by cold storage in different types of containers; furthermore, these variables were significantly affected when Eucalyptus globulus Labill. was stored in kraft paper bags. In both species the dry weight, sanitary state and growth in height and diameter were not affected by the storage and types of containers
