The relationship between biomass production, net photosynthetic rate (PN) and ribulose-1.5-bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBPC) activity was studied in Albizzia lebbeck, Azadirachta indica, Bombax ceiba, Erythrina variegata, Eucalyptus hybrid, Leucaena leucocephala, Millingtonia hortensis, Pongamia glabra, Samanea saman and Santalum album. The biomass production ranged from 1.24 to 6.04 g(d.m.) per plant over a period of three months. Among the ten species there was a high degree of correlation of biomass production with PN(r=0.81), leaf soluble protein (r=0.93), RuBPC activity (r=0.86) and leaf nitrogen (r=0.81). The superior biomass production of L. leucocephala was positively correlated with high PN, RuBPC activity and leaf soluble protein and nitrogen content.
