Dynamics of growth and growth characteristics in different years as affected by N fertilization in maize (Zea mnys L.)

In a long-term trial set up in 1961 maize (Zea mays L.) was studied for the dynamics of growth and growth characteristics. The effect of N fertilization on biomass production was characterized by absolute growth rate expressed by logistic function and its first differential quotient. The biomass production and the growth rate were the lowest in N0 treatment, and highest in N160 and N24o ones. The dynamics of growth of leaf area reliably reflect the effect of N deficiency and N fertilization, respectively, on growth. Based on the result of path analysis the leaf area index (LAI) and the net assimilation rate (NAR) have both considerable roles in determining the crop growth rate (CGR), but the primary effect is that of LAI
