Two field experiments to evaluate the behaviour of competition between weeds-mungbean and weeds-sweet corn were carried out in Tajur Experimental Station from June-November 1985. Crops were planted at Latosol soil of 240 m above sea level. The Randomized Block Design was applied for mungbean-weeds study, where treatments of 0-1 WAP (Weeks after planting), 0-2, 0-4, 0-6, and 0-9 WAP of weed free were combined with weed treatments of 0-1 WAP, 0-2, 0-4, 0-6 and 0-9 WAP. Under the same experimental design, corn-weeds study treatments were 0-2 WAP, 0-4, 0-6 and 0-8 WAP weed free combined together with 0-2 WAP, 0-4, 0,6, and 0-8 WAP with weed competitions. Type one interaction where neither no competition or equal competition were noted for number of nodes/mungbean plants, LAI (leaf area index) and yield/m square of sweet corn. Whereas type fourth interaction, where intraspecific competition was more dominant than interspecific competition was found in yield/m square of mungbean. There seems to be more experiments needed to validate the use of Harper concept in weed free and infestation period treatments.
