The biology of Agrotis ipsilon Hufn (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae) in the laboratory

The black cutworm A. ipsilon is an important insect pest in young vegetables in the nursery beds and in the field. The biology of A. ipsilon was studied in the laboratory from February 1986 to February 1987. The life cycle of A. ipsilon was 50 to 77 days (temperature 22 degree C to 25 degree C; RH 69 percent to 77 percent). A female moth may produce 145 to 2.918 eggs with an average of 1.055 eggs within two to 20 days. The highest number of eggs produced was at five and six days after copulation.
