Survey and identification of fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) in pome fruits in Jordan

Fire blight disease, caused by the bacteria Erwinia amylovora Burr affects mainly pome fruit trees, similar trees, and number of species of the ornamental plants. It is widely spread in Europe, North America, New Zealand as well as in some of the Mediterranean countries as Cyprus, Egypt, The West Bank (Khalil city area) etc.... In the South of Jordan the disease affected the Shoubak area - Shoubak Agricultural Research Station, where it spread on quince, apple and pear trees at the experimental orchards of the station. This study was conducted in an attempt to isolate and study the causal agent through the application of biochemical, physiological, serology and pathogenicity tests and by comparing it to isolate PD437 (provided by the Plant Protection Services, Holland) and used as control
