The use of sapropel for soil amelioration

The article deals with the role of humus in the soil and the necessity of increasing its content in the soils of Latvia. For that purpose the use of sapropel as organic fertilizer is suggested. The composition, the properties, the ways of the extraction of sapropel as well as the advantages of its use are discussed. The effect of sapropel on the yield of different crops is analyzed
