[Results of research into the genetic fund and selection of perennial fodder crops]

As a result of local selection procedures new varietes of Medicago sativa, Elymus sibiricus and Agropyron cristatum saman yerth Pgiin have been adopted. As a result of new selection methods of economically and biologically efficient and quality raw materials new hybrid plants were produced. These hybrids survive winter and drought conditions well, and also disease and the attention of rodents. The main directions of research into fodder crop genetic resources and raw materials are as follows: 1) Selection and habitat zoning of prospective exotic plants for different ecological zones of Mongolia. 2) Expansion of local cultivated raw materials, wild ecotypes, plants with a high winter kill but which can grow rapidly during the warmer months, study, of many high yielding exotic plants that may be suitable for selection. Of the exotic plants from Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, India, France and Russia, it was found that 150 sorts of Medicago sativa, 54 sorts of Bromus enermis Leyss, 14 sorts of Agropyron cristatum, 6 sorts of Agropyron repens, Melilotus albus, Phleum pratensed, Dactylis glomerata and Festuca could not survive Mongolia's winter conditions
