Except cashew and orange peels the organic wastes accusing in the tropics and examined in this investigation (comminuted plant materials or wastes from fruit and vegetable processing) are suitable for biogas production in a mixed system. Although the biogas yield of some investigated plant materials is low, it should be realized that the fertilizer which is produced at the same time, is the additional yield of a biogas process. An unstable process can often be avoided by using a mixture of different substrates
