[Deserving honeysuckle varieties and forms for breeding and crop production]

A study was made of 30 honeysuckle elite varieties from Siberia and the Far East and introduced to north-western regions of the country. Genetic and phenotypic sources were singled out for breeding honeysuckle for winter lardiness, early and late maturing dates, earliness, largeness of fruits yield, good flavour qualities and high ascorbic acid content. With the aim of introducing in crop production by the complex of characters Tomichka, Vasyuganskaya, Goluboje Vereteno, Pavlovskaya, Desertnaya were selected. The new hybrids, bred at the VIR Pavlovsk Experiment Station, give grounds to become varieties - and are recommended for State strain testing.
