Mites and ticks (Acarina: Mesostigmata et Ixodida) from the nests of Riparia riparia in Southern Slovakia

During the investigation of fauna in nests of Riparia riparia in Southern Slovakia undertaken in 1989 and 1990, mesostigmatic mites and ticks were found. 29 species of the mesostigmatic mites and 1 species of ticks in 240 nests were collected during the non-nesting period. The mites were classified into 6 groups on basis of their relation to the nests and hosts. The most abundant mite species were Androlaelaps casalis (BERLESE), Hypoaspis lubrica (VOIGTS, OUDEMANS), Dermanyssus hirundinis (HERMANN) and Dermanyssus gallinae (REDI). The seasonal dynamics of these species was evaluated in relation to the life cycle of the hosts and seasonal changes of weather.
