Urea increases the content of N substances and digestible N substances in maize stored with urea in the hermetically closed containers. However, this increase is not proportionate with the increasing urea rate. No changes were found in the observed values during the storage. Urea in the anaerobic conditions (the moisture content of maize about 30 percent) did not act as a decontaminator of aflatoxin B1. Its amount was increased 6-14 times when compared to the control. The increased pH value of the environment caused by the application of urea stimulated the occurrence of aflatoxin B1 in Aspergillus flavus. Urea effect on the occurrence of ochratoxin was indifferent. From the results follows that granulated urea is not suitable for decontamination of aflatoxin B1 and ochratoxin A in stored maize.
