Red tailed shark, Epalzeorhynchos bicolor (Smith) is formerly a unique species of Thailand. At present, it has been world wide distributed. Thailand exports about 5 millions fish a year. Red tailed shark does not spawn in pond. Induced spawning by hormone was experimented and found to be very successful. The best method is by using the mixture of pituitary glands of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and Human Chorionic Gonadotropic Hormone (HCG). The fish must be injected twice, the first injection with 0.7 dose of pituitary glands and 10 IU of HCG, the second injection with 2 doses of pituitary glands and 50 IU of HCG at 6-8 hrs interval. Twelve hours after the first injection the eggs are stripped and mixed with sperm. The egg of this fish is semibuoyant and will hatch out within 13-15 hrs. After 13 days, all the organs will be completely developed.
