Mungbean (Vigna radiata) and black gram (Vigna mungo) belong to the subgenus Ceratotropis of the genus vigna. Since Ceratotropis subgenus is an extremely homogeneous and highly evolved group, it is possible to use wild species of this group for the breeding of mungbean and/or black gram. Considering the genetic erosion of wild species occurring rapidly in the world, we conducted a wild Ceratortopis expedition in Northern Thailand. Sixteen accessions consisting of four wild species of Ceratotropis were collected. In the present paper, we named the species based on their morphological and electrophoretic characteristics. In conclusion, three species were assigned to V. grandiflora, V. umbellata var.gracilis and V. minima subsp. gracilis. One species collected in Chiang Rai has not been identified yet.
