During the past four years, a series of serious outbreak of fish disease occurred at several locations throughout Thailand. Several species of wild freshwater fish and cultured fish were affected, with affected fish showing large external erosive lesions on various parts of the body, lower jaw and skull. Important pathogens identified from diseased fish include Aeromonas hydrophila, virus, fungi and several ectoparasites. At present, the primary cause of the disease is still not clear, but severe disease outbreaks have occurred from October to March during which the water temperature normally decrease considerably in the annual cycle. Application of lime (calcium hydroxide) and salt to fish ponds gave satisfactory results against this disease.
