Extracts of fresh Phlai, Zingiber cassumunar Roxb. and tumeric, Curcuma longa L. were obtained by steam distillation. Each extract was sprayed on soybean leaves in the laboratory and in the field. Sprayed leaves were found to be protected from the soybean leaf roller. The extract from "Phlai" was better protection against soybean leaf roller than that from tumeric. The braconid parasites, Orgilus sp. were observed to attack the first instar larvae of L. diemenalis.
