Study of factors involved with severity of wheat disease in the highlands under rainfed conditions

This disease study is a joint project in the wheat seed production programme. Wheat cultivar Inia 66 was used to study on yield and quality of seed produce. Two factors, viz. N-fertilizer level and a combination of planting date and seeding methods, were thought to be involved with yield. The present study is to prove that the two factors are related to incidence and severity of diseases. The experiments were set up at two different locations Kae Noi and Khun Pae. Disease survey and study showed that only one disease was found in both places in all experiments : Spot blotch, incited by Bipolaris sorokiniana. Ten plants from each treatment in an experiment (N-fertilizer level or planting date) of four replications were recorded with the use of random sampling technique, percentages of infected plants and leaf area infection were obtained. Application of N-fertilizer could help reducing symptom severity of spot bloth disease of the wheat plant. Early planting dates could also reduce plant damage at Kae Noi
