The cassava mealybug is the main and economically most important pest of cassava, mealybugs attack and suck sap from stems, young shoots (apices) and leaves. Severe infestation leads to plants withering and dying. Fiber yield loss in heavily infested fields has been estimated to 50-75. Importation of untreated or infested cassava planting material is considered a major risk. Plant quarantine services closely regulate the importation of propagating material, including cut flowers and foliage
