Origin of Centaurea solstitialis is Europe, Western Asia and North Africa. Rich fauna of phytophagous insect on the Centaurea solstitialis (51 species from 7 order and 26 families) is present in Yugoslavia. In Europe number of species were studied. On the basis of detailed studies on biology, ecology, host range, etc., four insects species where introduced from Europe and Turkey to North America for biological control. These species are: Urophora sirunaseva and Chaetorellia australis, Bangasternus orientalis and Eustenopus villosus. Urophora sirunaseva and Bangasternus orientalis are well established in new areas, while for Eustenopus villlosus and Chaetorellia australis it can't be confirmed.
