The paper presents the results from a stationary experiments conducted on an experimental plot in Rimski Sancevi of the Institute for field and vegetable crops in Novi Sad (Yugoslavia). On the basis of the results obtained, the following can be concluded: yield of sunflower seed was significantly under the influence of the quantity and ratio of applied NPK fertilizers; phosphorus and potassium fertilizers applied individually or in their combinations had no significant effect upon the height of sunflower yield; the highest effect was obtained by applying only N and/or with combinations in which the quantity of nitrogen fertilizers was higher; optimum fertilization with NPK fertilizers can consideraby reduce the unfavourable effect of drought upon growth and development and hence sunflower yield; such or similar analysis should be investigated regarding other grown plants which would provide an insight into possibilities of exerting influence upon the increase of plant resistance towards unfavourable ecologic factors by applying certain mineral nutrition.
