Biotechnology in wood processing

The enzyme systems involved in biodegradation of major wood components: cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin are presented, the knowledge being fundamental for application in biotechnology. Present status of biotechnology in wood processing, from laboratory and pilot-plant scale to industrial use is described with a special focus on ecological aspects of the discussed biotechnologies.
